Clinical interest in promoting psychological wellbeing with a collaborative, compassionate, and evidence-based approach to therapy.
Fernando was born in Brazil and has lived in New Zealand since 2009. He has experience providing therapeutic support to clients with a variety of mental health issues and stressors in life. These include work related challenges, anxiety issues, depression, substance abuse, relationship difficulties, and experiences of physical, emotional, and psychological trauma. Fernando has also worked as a fully qualified addictions practitioner in both community and residential services.
At Sports and Spinal, Fernando adopts an evidence-based approach to therapy, which includes the use of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and mindfulness-based interventions. This work is often collaborative and client-centred, and completed alongside other health professionals to provide a holistic and integrated support plan for every client.
Qualifications: Master of Science (in Psychology), Post Graduate Diploma in Psychological Practice, Post Graduate Certificate in Health Sciences in Alcohol and Other Drugs Studies (AOD), Postgraduate Certificate in Arts (Psychology), Honours in Philosophy, Bachelor of Arts (double major in Psychology and Philosophy).
